A new Nvidia Shield TV phone has been coming on the market in latest weeks. More proof has emerged today to suggest that Nvidia is coming in the near future with not one but two fresh Shield TV designs.
As XDA-Developers detailed, two distinct Nvidia Shield TV models are currently under development. The first is “mdarcy,” a model for some moment now in the public eye. It was found with Pie in the Google Play Developer Console, as well as in source code. But that device on the 2017 Shield, “darcy,” seems to be a straightforward refresh with just a fresh chipset.
Hidden within the latest Shield Experience 8.0 update, pieces of code show another Shield model codenamed “sif.” Additional bits of code indicate some of the details of this new device, including lacking TV Tuner and USB support, as well as providing an SD card slot. Under the hood, the processor would also match the “mdarcy” updated Tegra chip.
This is also in line with some FCC listing results. While we initially believed that a fresh listing was for an updated Shield TV, the option of a second form factor based on sketches in those listings was suggested by an update to the 2017 Shield FCC listing. Speculation pins that make a fresh dongle shape factor, and these fresh USB port results assist to support that.

However, when Nvidia plans to launch a product like this, it is still mainly uncertain. The last launch of Nvidia Shield was at CES 2017, and as we go further into the second half of the year, CES 2020 appears to be a real opportunity for a new model of Shield TV. We’re just going to have to wait and see for now.
