It wouldn’t be surprising to see a “OnePlus 7 T” debut later this year after doing it with its previous several generations. CEO Pete Lau confirmed during a call today that a new device will arrive later in 2019, possibly a 5 G OnePlus 7T.
Speaking to the Financial Times (via XDA), Lau confirmed the arrival of this new 5 G phone before the end of this year. If there’s any sign of previous years and latest tips, mid-October is likely when we’ll see this new machine. In the interview, Lau says he believes that any smartphone released at the end of 2019 must include 5 G connectivity to be considered a “flagship.” He expects 5 G to be more widespread in 2020, and he said this new device will be compatible with more 5 G networks around the world.
This also shows alignment with a latest Sprint announcement. The carrier confirmed an agreement with OnePlus to carry a 5 G device, and it is logical to think that this “OnePlus 7 T 5 G” would be the mysterious device.
At this moment, though, there is not much else we know about it. At this stage, the name is merely an assumption, and it is uncertain whether OnePlus would also publish a follow-up to the OnePlus 7 standard that debuted in some markets. Other improvements beyond 5 G’s wider reach might end up being the 855 + Snapdragon chip, but at this stage there’s nothing on the table.
