Google just announced significant detailsof this next version of Android, and now HMD Global confirms how it’s going to manage updates. Starting later this year, over the course of just a few months, Nokia will update almost every one of its smartphones to Android 10.
HMD Global has had a pretty good track record for updates and security patches on its multiple devices since taking over the Nokia brand a couple of years ago. The firm today verified its Android 10 roadmap.
Nokia will update the Nokia 7.1, 8.1, and Nokia 9 Pureview to Android 10 beginning in Q4 of this year. From there, about the beginning of 2020, the Nokia 6.1, 6.1 Plus, and 7 Plus will be updated. Nokia 2.2, 3.2, 4.2, and 3.1 Plus will also receive their updates during the first half of Q1 2020, with Nokia 1 Plus, 5.1 Plus, and Nokia 8 Sirocco in the second half of the quarter. Nokia 2.1, 3.1, 5.1, and Nokia 1 rounding stuff out will all be updated to Android 10 sometime in Q2 2020.
That’s a huge collection of devices that have been confirmed to get the update in just a few months. Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer of HMD, also stated that Nokia was “the fastest company to upgrade across the spectrum from Android Oreo to Android Pie. And we look set to do it even quicker with today’s roll-out plan for Android Pie to Android 10 upgrades. We are the only 100% manufacture committed to the recent Android throughout the portfolio.
