A few weeks ago, the Nvidia Shield TV picked up Android Pie, but that update created some 4K streaming problems. Now, with Shield Experience 8.0.1, Nvidia released a fix for that 4K problem.
A Nvidia worker confirms in a forum post that Shield Experience 8.0.1 runs out to users as of today and is a “big step” towards a 4K streaming problem fix. Unfortunately, the update alone will not solve the issue as it will require updates to the server-side app. For example, Vudu has disabled 4 K streaming on the Shield and will need to re-enable it to advantage users.
In addition to the 4K streaming fix, the recent update from Nvidia also discusses some other Shield problems. That involves redesigning the side-mounted choice of the Android Pie volume slider. We still need to get the update and are still unable to comment on what the UI looks like.
Nvidia’s changelog also cites fixes for controllers, remote controls and apps, as well as fixing a crash problem in the Google Play Store. The possibility to set a default launcher is also restored. The complete Nvidia change log on Shield Experience 8.0.1 is below, and this post will be updated with more information about the 4K fix as they roll in.
