Over the years, Apple’s “Made for iPhone” and related branding initiatives have helped consumers buy accessories in great ways and we’ve seen Google do something similar for its products over the past few years. Now, Google can start a new initiative “Works with Chromebook.”
The Anker PowerPort Atom is a tiny USB-C charger that over USB Power Delivery pushes out 30W of power. That’s the level with which most Chromebooks operate, and that amount of power–although lower than the 45W seen on Google’s Pixelbook / Go–is adequate to charge most Chromebooks. At just $30 or so, it’s also very affordable.
Discovered at ChromeUnboxed by our mates, this Anker charger was spotted with a mysterious new sticker attached at a Best Buy location A sticker “Works with Chromebook” appeared on this device’s packaging. To be sure, the fact that this is a new initiative that Google has launched is not verified by any means, but the design of the sticker definitely seems to have come from the company.
To our knowledge, with this “Works with Chromebook” sticker, this Anker charger is the only item in the wild that can be seen, so if this is an official Google program, it is very limited in scope. It wouldn’t be all that shocking if Google started placing these stickers on partner accessories as more Chromebooks are embracing USB-C, especially as the program “Made for Google” is also expanding.
