Ambient Mode allows you to “turn your phone into a digital photo frame, control music, other smart home devices and more.” Officially enabled while charging, it is “available on select Android O[8.0] and above devices. There are two parts to Assistant Ambient Mode, similar to a Smart Display and the Pixel Stand UI. The first is a lockscreen showing the time in large numbers, or a slideshow of Google Photos. There is a row of notification icons at the bottom of this screen.
Tapping through shows a more interactive notification card experience. Up is a familiar greeting that involves a time of flight or missed calls. Calendar activities, weather and travel plans are presented with their own cards, while all other alerts are shown as icons.
