Google revealed yesterday that Tomb Raider and Farming Simulator 19 would be the free Stadia Pro games in December. Google Stadia followed up on this announcement to confirm that refunds were eligible for those who purchased either game.
Yet Google has decided to show mercy to those users who purchased Tomb Raider or Farming Simulator 19, despite how little time has gone by since the release of Stadia. The Stadia Team shared in a follow-up edit to their original announcement that buyers are eligible to receive a refund by contacting Google Support, even though the normal refund window has already passed.
Yet Google has decided to show compassion to those folks who purchased Tomb Raider or Farming Simulator 19, despite how little time has gone by since the release of Stadia. The Stadia Team announced in a follow-up edit to their original announcement that buyers are eligible to receive a refund by contacting Google Support, even though the usual refund window has already passed.
We know that some users have recently purchased these two games for their collection. Because of the proximity between the launch of the platform, and the announcement of these titles in Stadia Pro, we’re happy to assist you if you’d like to request a refund if you have purchased either or both of these titles, even if it’s outside of our normal policy.
There are some things you should remember before you go immediately to ask for a refund. If you’re planning to keep your Stadia Pro subscription up as February rolls around, go to the refund instead. You will lose access to all of your free games until you re-subscribe if you decide to drop Stadia Pro. If you’re not sure if you’re going to keep Stadia Pro, you do not want to go to the refund, so you can keep Tomb Raider and/or Farming Simulator 19 forever.
Either way, this is a fantastic gesture of goodwill on the part of Google and should help sow the trust of gamers in Stadia as a platform after a somewhat rocky beginning. Whether Google will offer a similar extended refund period to those who end up buying Stadia Pro games in January shortly before their launch is not clear, but I personally wouldn’t count on it.
