Qualcomm announced today its latest system-on – a-chip flagship smartphone, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 5G. They also announced the names of Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 and Snapdragon 765G, respectively, for a few mid-range chips.
Qualcomm does not describe the chips until the keynote of tomorrow, but this morning the company gave some very basic information on the point.
The two new platforms (the 865 platform and the 765 platform) were made with 5G and AI in mind as announced by Qualcomm senior vice president and general manager of wireless, Alex Katouzian. In particular, the 865 packs the Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF system, which is said to be “the world’s most advanced 5G platform.”
As it happens, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 and 765 G also offer 5G connectivity, as well as “advanced AI processing, and select Snapdragon Elite Gaming experiences.”
Obviously, the main takeaway is that these are the mobile smartphone chips we can expect to infiltrate dozens of Android phones launching next year, bringing a lot of improvements over the chips of last year. Tomorrow we’re going to hear more about those improvements.
We’re going to be on the ground all week to keep you in the loop on all the latest developments, but if you want to watch yourself the different keynotes from the Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit, you can do that too.
