Google celebrated the 30-day anniversary of Stadia on Thursday by recapping recent additions through the latest “Savepoint” series and announcing the studio acquisition. Through rolling out game achievements the service is now kicking off its second month.
While there was no UI for Stadia to view launch achievements, they were recorded by Google from the start. Online and on Chromecast-connected televisions, an interface is now available.
Such “special awards” can be accessed by opening your friends list and clicking on any profile— assuming a visible choice is set to the permission “See your games & accomplishments” under “Friends & privacy” Next to an award icon, you will see “Achievements,” while your account has a list of “Recent achievements” right in the pop-up.
Stadia’s full Achievements page is organized by game with each card noting how many you have unlocked and recorded total through a progress bar. By selecting a title, you can arrange the complete list by “Ordered” or “Unlocked” with the date of earnings on each item. Developers are responsible for creating achievements and creating a badge.
There are also “secret achievements” that “you won’t see a definition of how they are earned until you reach a specific goal.”
Achievements appear when you earn them in a game immediately. Alerts appear at the top of the screen and more details will be shown by pressing the Stadia button on the controller.
Awards on Android or iOS are not yet available. The message “Achievements coming soon” is still present, while the official support document does not mention the mobile apps. Stadia game achievements quietly began to roll out on Thursday evening and should be widely deployed online and for tv.
