Over the past few years, Google’s messaging efforts have not always resulted in success, but Google Duo has been one of the most impressive products to come out. Now, with emoji reactions in video messages, Google added another new feature to Google Duo.
Apparently added in recent days, the new feature of Google’s emoji reactions offers a quick response option for incoming video messages. For instance, if a friend sends a short video and you want to reply that it’s funny, you can quickly tap the reaction button and choose the laughing emoji.
These reactions are also commonly found on other platforms. For example, Instagram allows users to respond with a quick swipe up to stories that shows a set of emoji reactions. Facebook has a similar functionality for sharing emoji reactions.
There are eight emojis available to respond to a video message with reactions on Google Duo. Once a reaction has been selected, any recipients who send a reaction will notify the user who sent the video message. If it is a group message, the reactions of others in the group can be seen by all users.
This may not be a feature everyone will use on a daily basis, but it should be a handy feature for those who usually share video clips on Duo with friends. This is widely rolled out for Android on Google Duo, so far as we can tell. If you don’t see it, make sure your Play Store app is up-to-date.
