A big part of the appeal of the Google Pixel is that it gets very quick new updates. That wasn’t the case in recent months, though. When we kick off the new year, some owners of Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL still haven’t got the security update from December and all the goodies it brings with it. Luckily, it’s not far away.
A tweet from the Made by Google Twitter account, spotted by Droid-Life, confirms that some owners of Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL had a much delayed update for the month of December. It’s unclear why the update was so late, but not only were the owners of Pixel 3 affected. The Pixel 4 also saw both November and December delayed updates.
As for owners of Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, the update of December will apparently arrive as a joint update with the release of January, which is expected to arrive early next week. Nonetheless, this only applies to some owners of Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, as when it was first released a good number got the update. Google reiterates in some other tweets the message about a joint update.
We understand your concern, Mike. If you did not receive the December update, in the coming days you'll be receiving a joint January and December security update. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Of course, the specifics of this update are relatively unclear at this point, including whether it affects other pixels like Pixel 3a or Pixel 2 or not. Nonetheless, it’s great to see that Google is fixing things for those who missed out with the delayed December update. Perhaps in the next few months, things will start to get back on track.
