The Google Play Store is not just where you are getting new apps but where they are being updated too. That’s done automatically for most users and updates are only an afterthought. The Play Store now, however, no longer shows notifications for new apps.
At the end of 2019 several users began to notice that less notifications were being sent from the Play Store. Specifically, as apps were updated notifications would no longer arrive.
The Play Store will normally update a handful of apps that had pending updates once you plugged into a charger for those with auto-update turned on. For example, plugging your phone in before bed might trigger the updates, leading to a morning notification telling users which apps have been updated. This notification did not serve any function beyond the partial list, but it was helpful to have so that you might expect some sort of change.
A representative for Google contacted the folks at Android Police to confirm that, indeed, the Play Store no longer shows updated app notifications. Why? For what? Unfortunately Google didn’t explain.
Google obviously no longer sends the notification as the list of newly updated apps still exists in the Play Store, but it seems a little odd to take away the handy little note. Notably, when an app is actively being updated Google always shows a warning. Who knows, mightbe Google only wanted to help reduce the noise of notifications.
