Google Messages has one major appealing feature in RCS, but other parts of the app have made it a great offer for all users. Google has been working on adding smart suggestions for stickers to Google Messages for some time since last year, and now it looks like that feature will go live soon, and Gboard is also testing a similar feature!
Let’s think about Google Messages first. The setting for “Suggested Stickers” has did appear over the last few days for more users of Google Messages. That’s not the case with my own Pixel 4 XL, but some of Android Police’s folks have had the toggle appear as pictured below in their settings menu. Unfortunately things weren’t working, even with it toggled on.
More interestingly, though, a tipster who spoke to Android Police found that “Suggested Stickers” not only appeared in his device’s settings but were actually live and working. That’s probably because he is running a newly leaked dogfood version of the Messages app, but it still shows that Google is almost ready to go with this feature. If they do appear, suggestions for stickers appear immediately above the compose box in groups of two or three.
Additionally , Google is examining a similar sticker feature for its Android Gboard keyboard. For a while, stickers were supported in the keyboard, but now Google is highlighting packs when you go to add a new one. As shown below, the latest sticker packs feature a preview along with the buttons “move” and “add.” The feature just displays one pack at a time. However, it’s unclear how extensively this has been rolled out.
