One of the biggest new titles to be released at Google Stadia this year is Cyberpunk 2077. The game was originally scheduled to hit the current consoles and PCs in April, but the title was pushed back to September by a considerable delay. As a result of this and the placement on the site of the game, Cyberpunk 2077 was expected to arrive at Google Stadia at the same time as other platforms, but that’s not the case.
Over the last few weeks, CDPR’s official website for Cyberpunk 2077 has directly confirmed the game ‘s new release date of 27 September 2020. Proudly below that date and pre-order button, the site lists support for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Google Stadia. Any logical person would assume that this means that Stadia would be running at the same time as everyone else.
Well, apparently not that.
The folks at StadiaSource noted in a recent press release from CDPR that it is clear that Google Stadia will not see the game arrive at the same time. Rather, it will debut at the end of the year, which could mean a delay of up to three months!
It’s unclear why Google Stadia is being specifically delayed but I would guess it’s just a matter of developer priorities. Stadia is only a very tiny platform compared to PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
Still, one would hope a larger 5-month delay would give developers time to sort things out for Stadia and get their release aligned with the rest. A slight delay on Stadia would initially have been perfectly understandable, but now it feels a bit ridiculous. Given that this is one of the most awaited AAA titles in years, it’s a big shame for fans of Stadia.
