Although it didn’t show up alongside the OnePlus 8 series, OnePlus has been working on a new, more affordable Android smartphone for some time now. The device was known by a few names — OnePlus 8 Lite and OnePlus Z — but we now know what it really is called. We know this next OnePlus device will be named “Nord,” thanks to an accidental Instagram post.
The name “Nord” has been popping up before today, with tipster Max J earlier this month reporting the name on Twitter. That name can obviously inspire a lot of doubt at first glance, but it turns out that is what the company has settled on. OnePlus inadvertently confirmed that name in a post to its new Instagram account, “OnePlusZLiteThing.”
The post has been captured and shared by some Twitter users, since it was deleted and replaced. The post had a small gallery of photos celebrating the phone’s development, with the team explaining that “ideas have become reality, and now we’re almost ready to launch.” However, in the very first of those photos, an invitation is shown that clearly expresses the “Nord” name. The text on the top card is too blurry to read accurately but for the “first 100,” presumably the first 100 buyers, it teases something.
OnePlus’ latest affordable phone, “Nord,” is expected to deliver with the Snapdragon 765G, a 90Hz display, and more, a pretty good overall package. There will be several cameras too, it has been tipped. As for a release? Signs point to July but only in selected regions.
