Google owned Waze was one of the most famous mapping services around and it is getting a slight redesign today. Waze is getting an updated logo for 2020 which will be refreshed to the platform as part of a bigger design.
Through a blog post, Waze introduces its new branding design that, for the most part, is just slightly changed from what was available before. Which has changed? Waze is aiming for a much more friendly, “happier” design for this latest logo in 2020, with the logo itself. The overall look is still extremely familiar, but for example, the wheels were adjusted to look as though they were on both sides of the character, rather than just one.
Looking at the new logo vs. the old one, it quickly becomes apparent how much of an improvement the new one is. In 2020, even the text just seems to fit better on a modern smartphone. As shown below, the updated branding will also appear in the WazeCarpool app, presumably on both devices’ Android and iOS versions.
Furthermore, the new Waze logo inside the app can be a bit more expressive. “Moods” has 30 different feelings drivers may want to express while on the road and each has a new design that fits the updated logo.
The update also spreads to the whole app as well. With this latest design, you will notice that colors are much brighter and bolder, with icons especially popping up thanks to thicker black borders. The icons now look a little like they’re from a cartoon, but I don’t think that’s really a bad thing.
It’s not clear when those changes would reflect the Waze apps for Android and iOS.
