OnePlus Buds are arriving alongside the next smartphone of the company but we don’t know a lot about these wireless earbuds so far. However, onePlus reported in an interview released today that Buds will use Warp Charge to refill the battery at super speeds.
Speaking with TechRadar, project manager Jay Liu of Buds confirmed the use of Warp Charge on OnePlus Buds. This is the same branding that OnePlus uses on the system which impressively fast charges its smartphones, so you can expect very fast charging from these earbuds.
How fast exactly? Liu says OnePlus Buds will gain up to 10 hours of power in just 10 minutes charging time. When you compare it to the competition, that is really fast. Apple claims users can only get 5 hours of power from charging for 15 minutes. Google, on the other hand , says just 2 hours on its latest Pixel Buds, with a 10-minute fee. Furthermore, Google’s figure applies to the earbuds themselves, not the case, as OnePlus talks of it.
Liu goes on to say that users are not going to get the same rates as you would see on the smartphones of one of the firms. OnePlus Buds will instead charge at this speed using any charger which provides more than 10W of power. The speeds will be capped at 5V 1.5A to ensure no damage to the case ‘s internal battery — a 430mAh cell.
Unfortunately users will not be able to charge OnePlus Buds with wireless charging. Why didn’t they? “That would add to the expense,” Liu explained. Shame. Shame on that.
