The Nvidia Shield TV is the best set-top box you can purchase for Android TV right now, and a redesign is being made for today’s companion app. The updated remote app for Nvidia Shield TV now includes shortcuts to apps and games, new buttons, and more.
Now available on Google Play, Nvidia Shield TV Remote App version 2.1.0 has a lot of pretty big changes. When you first open the app, the biggest one you will find is that there is now a main screen with shortcuts to your device’s apps. There is a shortcut tab for games on a second tab.
There is a new “toolbar” at the bottom of the UI with a microphone, volume controls, and also a power button. Similar controls of volume can now also be used on-screen. Previously, to adjust the volume on Shield TV, the app hijacked the volume buttons on your phone.
Tapping the arrow on the left side of this bar opens the Shield TV with a switch between the D-Pad, trackpad, and swipe-pad.
The remote interface is also redesigned to include default back and home buttons, as well as buttons for play / pause, fast forward, and rewind. There’s also a dedicated settings menu button that looks a lot like the button seen on the latest Shield TV models that recently leaked.
